Last Chance for the Beastmen Army!

Posted by Trevy the Great on August 31, 2011 at 11:25 AM Comments comments (0)

Today is the last day that the Beastmen sale army will be available!  There has been a lot of interest but I will hold on to the army for now if it doesn't sell today, so let me know if you still want it.

I'm looking for around $1,000 US for the whole lot.

The eBay auction is at the following link but will only be up until the end of the day:

Really, Privateer Press?

So, I rocked up to this Warmachine tournament with the lists that I posted below and my ridiculously awesome Cryx army.

As many of you may know, my Cryx force doesn't include a lot of Privateer Press models.  This is for several reasons:

  1. Privateer Press models, on a per-model basis, cost two times the amount that GW's do.  If you think that Empire "Goldswords" are bad, try buying a unit of 10 Bane Thralls.  For a game that is supposed to be cheaper than Warhammer, it's not doing itself any favors.
  2. Privateer Press has been in a production rut for the last couple of months, forcing it to take 2-6 weeks for a model purchased to ship to the customer.  I have a friend who waited three whole months for an order to ship before finally cancelling the order.
  3. Privateer Press models look really goofy and are sculpted in a style that I really don't like to look at on the tabletop, with anime-esque features and shoulder pads so large that they put Space Marines to shame.
Well, having shown up to the tournament ready to play, with no expectations of winning and with the only fully painted army at the event, a fully modelled, scenic based 35-point force that probably cost me a similar price to purchasing the legal models due to the delux resin inserts as well as sculpting and basing materials, I was subsequently told that I would not be allowed to play because I was using proxied models.  With no other options I was forced to leave the event and drive the 1/2 hour back home with nothing to show for it.

Should I also mention that I knew that there was a chance that my models would be looked twice at, but was convinced by my gaming group (many of whom have attended tournaments run by the same Press-Ganger in the past) that, because of the tournament's small size and locality as well as the quality to which my models were finished I would have a good chance of being able to play.  How about that no where on the event page was it stated that proxy models were not allowed?

Needless to say, I'm a little miffed by the whole escapade.  Is it really constructive to alienate someone who has been described as a "pillar of the gaming community" in my area?  I don't think so.

In light of the event I've started setting gears in motion to make my local gaming club, a normally friendly, non-competitive group into a more prominent tournament venue.  I'm trying to take these tournaments out of the hands of larger companies who have very little presence locally and only care about the profits they make off of their models, and back into those of gamers who actually care.

Tourney Time!

Phew, I'm up early today preparing for a Warmachine tournament at my local game store.  It's 35 points and to be honest I'm not sure what format they are going to be using.  Thankfully it is being run by a press-ganger who knows what they're doing so I don't have to worry about it (I generally have bad experiences with tournaments at this particular game shop).

My lists look like this:

List 1

Warwitch Deneghra

Defiler Bonejack

Defiler Bonejack

Nightwretch Bonejack

Slayer Helljack

Bane Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts)

Bane Thrall Officer and Standard

The Withershadow Combine

Bane Lord Tartarus

Skarlock Thrall

Necrotech and 1 Scrap Thrall

List 2

Warwitch Deneghra

Nightwretch Bonejack

Nightwretch Bonejack

Defiler Bonejack

Nightmare Helljack

Bane Thralls (Leader and 5 Grunts)

Bane Thrall Officer and Standard

Bane Lord Tartarus

Skarlock Thrall

Warwitch Siren

Necrotech and 1 Scrap Thrall

Stay tuned for some awesome tournament batreps!  We'll see how 6-weeks of Hordesmachine experience will do me!

Oh, also it's my birthday.  Happy birthday to me!

Sphece Mahreens!

Sorry I haven't posed in a while, kids!  I really haven't had too much to talk about. :(

I've spent the last couple of weeks finishing up all of my Valhalla Batreps, completing the last few touches on my Angels Perditus and getting everything geared up for uni.

I just downloaded the demo for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, a mindless 3rd-person shooter/slasher game featuring everyone's favorite super-heroes from the 41st millennium.

It looked cool for the first five minutes, and then it stopped working. :(

As soon as I'd complete the first objective of any given mission, the game would freeze.  In the "Inquisitor" mission, as soon as the little servo-skull floated creepily up to me, the screen would fade to black and stay like that.  It was interesting, though, because the sound would continue to play and I could still access the menu, I simply couldn't see the game.

In the Jump Pack mission, as soon as I got the jump pack out of the Drop Pod, the game would freeze.  Another interesting happenstance, however, is that I could still move the camera around, just nothing else would move on the screen.

Obviously, it was very dissapointing.  Has anyone else had similar problems?

Valhalla - Hall of the gods!

For those who haven't heard, I'm at the Valhalla event being hosted by Blue Table Painting at the moment...

Actually, in all honesty, I'm sitting in the Salt Lake City airport waiting for my baggae and awesome armies to come spinning out of the baggage carousel while looking forward to BTP's Valhalla.

I haven't updated anything in a while because I've been busy pulling proverbial double shifts on my 'Blood Angels' army for the event.  I had 3 days to assemble, convert, kitbash and paint 5 Sanguinary Guard, 11 Assault Marines, 4 Sanguinary Priests and a Stormraven.

Which I did.  I had to pull a nasty pair of all-nighters, though.

Well, anyway, I'll be taking videos and pictures and trying to post them up all weekend.  Worst comes to worst you can expect some awesome content come Monday.

The Beastmen in all their glory!

I played a 4,000 point game of Warhammer Fantasy last night with my newly-completed Beastmen.  It was very awesome.

My video embedding isn't working right now, so just click this text in order to view the battle report!

In other news, the Beastmen army is up on eBay as a Buy It Now or Best Offer dealio.  Check it out!

There are some photos and information about the army in the gallery to the left.

My camera is a battery hog, and unfortunately I don't have any of the proper batteries to feed it!

It's very sad because I have so many cool things to show you guys!

Beastmen Complete!

Posted by Trevy the Great on August 1, 2011 at 11:20 PM Comments comments (0)

My Beastmen army has been in progress for quite a while and is finally complete.  I'll have some final photos of the force available within a few days.

Some initial information is that the army runs about 4,500 points and consists of in the neighborhood of 200 models.  I will be looking for around $750-$1,000 for the whole army as it is painted to a very high tabletop standard.

It'll be put up on eBay as a BiN or Best Offer as soon I take photos, so stay tuned!
