Trevy's New Stegadon

In my opinion, the Stegadon is quickly becoming an iconic peice of Warhammer art.  Most fantasy universes have their own examples of dinosaurs and lizard-people, but how many actually put both ideas together.  In what other fantasy environment can you find a massive, pre-historic lizard being ridden by tiny pre-historic lizards while simultaneously trampling hapless enemies, firing massive darts and javalin poisoned with the most virulent diseases found within the jungles and preforming impossible feats of arcane significance?  Just look for the fabled 'pro-painted' models being sold for inordinante amounts of money on eBay and you'll see a topic filled with these wonderful dinosaurs (speaking of which, I'm thinking of doing the same thing, seems perfectly legitimate to me).  Of course, I may be biased.

Many know that I have a very dear Lizardmen army, and when the new, wonderful plastic models were released, I couldn't help myself, so I bought a couple.  That was five months ago, and I've only just finished my first one now.  The wait was well-worth it, however, because just as this model is a joy to paint, it is also a joy to look at, so I'll throw you guys a bone made out of one of these beautiful, iconic dinosaurs:

About halfway through the painting of this model I discovered the beauty of a wash and highlight and how good the combination looks together.  I used that technique on the crew, but the Chief on the top and the Stegadon's skin was all done with a very complex layering technique.  I hope no one notices the difference , but I think the next Stegadon will be done in all washes so I can compare the two.

There you go, and as Shawn from BlueTablePainting says, you have your inspiration for the day!

Ogre Kingdoms Army WIP

Hey everyone.

Here's what I'm working on now (besides my Lizardmen Army for an upcoming Mega-Battle).  It's an Ogre Army, with qualities from Level 1 to Level 3 (1 for the Gnoblars, 2 for the Ogres and 3 for the Hero).  This army consists of five Ironguts (complete with a custom gutlordfrom the Bulls), four Leadbelchers, twenty-four Gnoblars, four Bulls and a custom Battle Standard Bearer. I believe that this is an expansion to an existing force.

Vampire Counts Necrarch Vampire

Hello everyone.  This is just a small update because I really should get back to the 1,500 points of Ogres I'm building (teaser! :D), but I just finished a vampire to go with those Vampire Counts Skeletons that I finished a while ago.  He's level 3, but I'm really happy how he turned out.

Some More Tyranid Gaunts

It was a while since I painted any Tyranids, considering that I am pretty much done with my massive Apocalypse Tyranid horde of DOOM!!!  Anyway, besides that and Hive Fleet Mantis (a commission I did a couple of months ago), I haven't dome many bugs, until I got another commission from Hive Fleet Mantis.  It's small, just a couple of Hormagaunts, but its something.

Vampire Counts Skeletons

I played Vampire Counts as an army for a while, I got most of my models off of Ebay and painted them very quickly.  The best part about the army was the skeletons, and I became very proficient at painting bone at high levels.  You can imagine my enjoyment when I was commissioned to paint some Vampire Counts skeletons.  Of course, they are level 1.  I still think they look pretty good anyway.

For these models, the client wanted his colors to be red and black, but have his bone take on a really dark and vacant look to contrast with the bright red heraldry.  I think the overall effect is very powerful.

In other news, I also have some site updates to announce.  First of all, you can now access RSS feeds for this site be scrolling down to the very bottom of this blog page and clicking on the orange RSS button (can't miss it).  Secondly, this site is now listed in both the FTW (From the Warp, not For the Win, people) blog index and the Bell of Lost Souls link index.  The banners for these sites are now conveniently placed at the bottom of the page in the site footer.

Tyranid Mycetic Spore

The guy who I painted a couple of troops from Hive Fleet Mantis for a while ago approached me and asked me to paint a scratch-build of his.  It was a Tyranid Mycetic Spore, and while the scratch build wasn't great (at the time, the base needed some work and a coat of paint did wonders), the idea behind it was brilliant.  The guy used a plastic Easter egg as the base, simplt sorrounding it with Tyranid bits as if it had buried into the earth (which descent from orbit will do to you).  Wondering why I hadn't though of this wonderful innovation, I set about painting it with glee, specially aware of the friction the pod experiences during it's fall.  Enjoy!

Stupid, stupid Trevy!

I went on and on about that awesome Mega-Battle I played over the summer at the Battle for the Shrine minicon but never actually gave you the report!  Doh!

And while you wait for that one to load (it's quite a long file, lots of epic music and stuff), here is a wonderful tutorial on how to paint those GW craters for your Warhammer 40,000 games.
