Beastmen vs. Ogre Kingdoms, 2,500 points

I played a game a couple days ago that I took some pictures of and posted up on YouTube.  Hopefully it is sufficiently enjoyable.

I'm trying a... 'less-dynamic' approach to these battle reports lately, mainly because people complained about not being able to understand my reports with all of their inherent dynacism.  If you like the picture-only format, let me know and I'll continue it!

Wolves, but not from space

So, just to prove to you all that I am still alive - sorry for the drought in posts and cool things, by the way - I have a little unit that I just finished up for a client of Chaos Warhounds.  It's not much (they're Level 1), but it's something.

Space Wolves on the Table

I'm currently working on some Level 3 13th Company Space Wolves for the same client that I've done a lot of Space Wolves stuff for, so I figuered I'd show you all some WIP pics.

The project includes 20 Grey Hunters, 10 Blood claws and 5 Wolf Scouts, so I've been working on finishing them.  Apart from some work still to be done on the Wolf Scouts and extensive base-work on all of the models to make them fit more with the others they are all ready to be painted.

The project also includes 9 magnetized figures, including a drop pod, which are all in progress.

Black Templars vs. Tyranids Battle Report, Mk II

Ugh, I wrote this whole report and the page glitched out and refreshed.  Now I have to write it all over again. :(

Anyways, I went down to my local game store the other day with a 2,000 point Tyranid army and played my buddy Corey with his Black Templars.  We played a Dawn of War, Capture and Control game and I brought the following army list:

Hive Tyrant w/ TL Devourers, Armored Shell, Regen and Hive Commander

Prime w/ TS, AG, 2 Boneswords and a Deathspitter

10 Ymgarl Genstealers

2 Zoanthropes w/ a Mycetic Spore

3 Warriors w/ Deathspitters

20 Termagaunts

19 Termagaunts

15 Genestealers w/ a Broodlord

15 Genestealers w/ a Broodlord

Trygon Prime w/ AD, TS and Regen

My opponent brought something along the lines of the following (standard caveats, I don't play Black Templars):

Chaplain w/ Bolter

Emperor's Champion

Techmarine w/ Tech-Servitor

10 Sword Brethen

10-man Crusader Squad

10-man Crusader Squad

10-man Crusader Squad w/ Rhino

Venerable Dreadnought

Land Raider Crusader

My opponent won the roll to deploy first and deployed so that my possible deployment zone would be as small as possible by putting a Crusader Squad behind the building to the center as well as one behind the ruined aquila statue to the top center of the picture with his Chaplain

I deployed my Termagaunts across from that last squad and nearby my objective to rush up and hold it.  Confident on my Hive Tyrant's ability to weather an ungodly amount of fire and still kick butt, I deployed him in the middle and my squad of Warriors in the far off corner to await the arrival of my Prime.

Reinforcements in the form of his Rhino, Land Raider, Bikes, Predator and Dreadnought arrived for my opponent promplty on his first turn.  Because of the movement that most of his troops were required to take, the shooting during his turn was rather light and resulted only in my loss of a wound from my Hive Tyrant from his Predator's Autocannon as well as the death of a single Gaunt.

Having kept most of my forces in reserve, I only got my Prime and other brood of Termagaunts in on my first turn.  The Termagaunts entered in the center of my deployment zone, ready to run to my objective should my original brood be wiped out and the Prime joined his Warriors in the corner as they moved up.

Hoping to engage his bikes and totally confident in my power to not totally fail, I moved my Hive Tyrant up and fired everything at the bikes, putting a wound on the Attack Bike.

Unfortunately, my confidence was not well rewarded.  As the rest of his troops moved up, my opponent fired everything he could at the Hive Tyrant, who weathered two Krak Missiles, an Autocannon, a Plasma Gun, two Multi meltas and countless bolters before falling to a lucky Rend from the Assault Cannon on his Land Raider.  It was really lucky.  He rolled 3 of them. :D

Although they didn't accomplish as much as I expected them to after learning of their true potential, I severely underestimated the power of my opponent's Biker squad.  It was not the relatively weak, 3 bolters and a multi-melta squad that I originally summed it up to be after initially looking at it, revealing a melta and plasma gun as well.  I resolved not to make that mistake again.

After the unfortunate loss of my Hive Tyrant and his valuable Hive Commander, my reserves rolls were not as good as I'd hoped them to be, with none of my fourty Genestealers arriving on the board on my second turn.  I did, however, get my Trygon Prime to pop up right smack dab in the middle of the enemy force that had gathered on the crushed Aquila statue as well as a Mycetic Spore containing a pair of Zoanthropes in some trees behind enemy the enemy armor.  Despite my bad reserve rolls, the Zoanthropes quite made up for my bad luck.  With some excellent rolling from the Ripper Tentacles from my spore, the Rhino carrying the Crusade squad was neatly wrecked.  The warp lances of the Zoanthropes blasted through the blessed hull of the Land Raider, wrecking that also and leaving the Sword Brethren squad inside stranded.

A smattering of shooting heralded the Black Templars next turn, with a few wounds being dealt to the Trygon from various plasma weapons in the Sword Brethren and Bike squad.  Shooting from the Crusade squad killed off the Mycetic Spore as the squad moved in to annihilate the Zoanthropes, which it did in the following Assault phase.  The Sword Brethen, Techmarine, Emperor's Champion and Chaplain assaulted the Trygon, killing it outright with a few well-placed Power Fist attacks, but not before six of the Sword Brethren were torn apart by the monstrous beast while the Crusade squad in the back assault and wiped out the two, poort Zoantropes.

I had a little better luck with my reserves rolls this time around, with my Ymgarl Genestealers and one of my regular Genestealer broods popping in.  The Ymgarl brood had been hiding in the building in the center and arrived right in front of the hapless Crusader sqaud cowering there, as the vanilla Genestealers showed up on my board edge behind the Termagaunts.  I considered Outflanking with them, but enemy elements were too disparate for the poor aliens to be able to get stuck in without a wasteful amount of huffing and puffing.  My Termagaunts to the right stayed put while the Warriors moved up, blasting away ineffectually with their Deathspitters.  In the Assault Phase, my Ymgarls attacked both the Crusader squad and the nearby bike squad, choosing to increase their Toughness for the round and handily wiping out the bike squad while inflicting horrendous casualties on the Crusader squad.  Having left his Sword Brethen buddies, the Techmarine was a ripe target for my newly-arrived Genestealers, who promptly attacked and obliterated him, overunning right into the waiting bolters of the oncoming Crusader and Sword Brethren squads.

After inflicting horrendous casualites on the Genestealers, the Sword Brethen and Chaplain moved on to assault the objective, attacking the Termagaunts in the woods and hacking down many of them, however I held on with a few left.  The remainder of the tactical squads moved back towards the Black Templars objective to try and reinforce it.

Unfortunately for the brave Sword Brethren, however, more Genestealers attacked from the table edge, counter attacking the veteran Space Marines and leaving only one alive.  The Warriors moved further toward the Black Templars objective where the Ymgarl Genestealers continued to tear the Crusader squad to shreds.  The Crusader Squad in the center was attacked by the remaining Genestealers from the initial unit, however escaped with minimal damage.

As the Sword Brethren wera annihilated, the Crusade squad in the center beat off its monstrous attackers and the squad in the rear made a desperate assault on the Tyranid forces bearing down on its position, attacking the Ymgarl Genestealers even as moved in on that position.

The Warriors moved up to take the Black Templar's position, but their way was blocked by the Dreadnought, and despite their best efforts the Tyranids could not move the massive war-machine's bulk.  Even so, the Tyranid's objective was securely held by the Genestealers at the end of Turn 6 when the game came to an end, resulting in a win for the Tyranid side.

I just received a very nice e-mail from a client for whom I had just finished some models, pictures of which a can be seen here.

"I received the models in the mail yesterday. They look great and I am pleased with how they look, honestly they look better than the pictures, I know you said no comments on camera in your video but honestly the pictures and video dont give the models justice because what I am seeing is much better than the pictures on the website."
